Buffalo, NY - Aiden McKenna, a player on the Junior Sabres 16U team, has announced his commitment to the University of Vermont. McKenna, a 6’2” 170 lb. goaltender from Rochester NY, entered his second season with the program with high expectations for both himself and the team. McKenna has started off this season strong, boasting an 8-2-0 record with a 1.33 goals against average and 2 shutouts.
A long term student of Janosz Goaltending, Coach Bob Janosz said, “It’s exciting to see Aiden’s hard work over the years paying off. He has always been a focused goalie who has consistently worked hard to improve his game. He has matured into a complete goalie with elite edge control and quickness while staying in control. Aiden is also mentally tough and comes up with timely saves when needed. I couldn’t be more proud of how far he has come. He is very deserving of this opportunity.”
“Aiden is one of the fiercest competitors I have ever coached,” said Cos Polino the 16U head coach. "His success is due to his work ethic and constant drive to become the best goaltender he can be. There are many reasons for our teams early success, but Aiden’s play so far is certainly one of the biggest.”
McKenna stated, “I am extremely proud & excited to announce my commitment to play Division 1 college hockey and further my education at University of Vermont. I am so thankful to my family, coaches, teammates & friends who have helped me along the way.”
