Ryan Smith and Gavin McCarthy Head to USA Hockey National Team Development Program Evaluation Camp

Congratulations to Buffalo Jr. Sabres skaters Ryan Smith and Gavin McCarthy, who will both attend this week’s USA Hockey National Team Development Program Evaluation Camp in Plymouth, Michigan. The camp will help determine which players are selected for the 2021-22 U.S. National Under-17 Team.

Smith, 15, is a North Tonawanda native who has played for the Jr. Sabres organization since 2018. He captained the 14U team last season and is enjoying a prosperous season with the 15U club. The forward recorded four points in five games with the Jr. Sabres in the 2018 Quebec International Pee-Wee Tournament.

McCarthy, 16, is a defenseman in his third year with the Jr. Sabres organization. He joined the 13U team in 2018 and is playing this season on the 16U club, where he has two points in three games. Like Smith, McCarthy was also on the 2018 Quebec team. His older brothers Aiden (Twin City Thunder) and Case (Boston University) also previously played with the Jr. Sabres.

The roster for USA Hockey’s U-17 team will be announced later this year.

Good luck to Ryan, Gavin and all other invited players!
