OHL Priority Selection Draft: Jr Sabres Spotlight
The Buffalo Junior Sabres organization would like to congratulate all 300 players selected in this year’s Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection this past weekend. We are incredibly proud to announce that several members of our organization were selected by teams across the OHL.
Beau Jelsma (’04, Brownsville, ON) was selected by the Barrie Colts with the 55th overall selection. Beau spent most of the 2019-20 season with the Buffalo Jr. Sabres 15U team, where he had 43 points in 53 games. The 5’10”, 165-pound forward also appeared in two games with the Brantford 99ers minor midget AAA organization. Beau has previously played with the Jr. Sabres’ bantam major team.
Brody Crane (’04, Union, ON) was selected by the London Knights with the 62nd overall selection. Brody previously spent two seasons with the Jr. Sabres’ bantom minor and bantam major teams before joining the 16U team this past season. He had 43 points in 49 games, including 21 goals. The 5’8”, 157-pound forward is committed to Penn State for the 2022-23 season.
Kaleb Smith (’04, Arcade, NY) was selected by the Erie Otters with the 106th overall selection. Kaleb recorded 55 points in 66 games this season with the 15U team, including 32 goals. The 6’0”, 174-pound forward previously played with the Jr Sabres’ bantam minor and bantam major teams.
Just two picks later, the Erie Otters also selected Patrick Geary (’04, Hamburg, NY) with the 108th overall pick. Patrick had a tremendous season on the blue line and led our 15U defensemen with 49 points this season, including 38 assists, and also had 122 penalty minutes. Like his teammates, he has also previously been a part of the Jr. Sabres organization at the bantam minor and major levels.
Ryan Conmy (’04, Alexandria, VA) was selected by the Niagara IceDogs with the 142nd overall selection. Ryan, who will turn 16 in October, spent most of the season with our 15U team, where he put up 48 points – including 27 goals – in 59 games. He also appeared in nine games with the Jr. Sabres 16U team, adding a pair of assists, after previously playing for the bantam minor & major teams in the organization.
Finally, Owen Mehlenbacher (’04, Fort Erie, ON) was selected by the Kitchener Rangers with the 257th overall selection. Owen averaged nearly a point-per-game this season, scoring 36 goals and adding 32 assists for 68 points in 69 games with our 15U team. He recently tendered an agreement with the USHL’s Muskegon Lumberjacks.
Drafted or not, the Buffalo Junior Sabres organization is incredibly proud of our 2004-born players who put forth countless hours of hard work, both on and off the ice, and represent our organization with class as they set a wonderful example for our future.
