2020-2021 Jr Sabres Coaching Announcement

Today, we are pleased to announce head coaches for our 9u-18u Buffalo Junior Sabres teams. Overall, these nine coaches bring with them over 2000 NHL and 500 NCAA college hockey games played, as well as other countless hours of hockey experience.  We do have some new head coaches this season that we’d like to highlight.

First, Jason Pominville, a long time Buffalo Sabre with over 1000 games played, will now be our Pee Wee Minor Head Coach.

Next, Canisius College hockey alum, Cody Freeman will be making his head coaching debut by leading the Peewee Major team. Freeman spent four years playing professional hockey in Europe, as well as has spent the past three years working as a development coach for the Academy of Hockey. This past season he also assisted on our Bantam Minor hockey team.

Moving to our 15u Midget team, Brian Gionta will be taking over as head coach. Gionta brings a wealth of NHL and international hockey experience, including captaining the US Olympic team in 2018.

Lastly, at the 18u level, Joe Marszalek is stepping down as head coach. We would like to thank him for many years of dedicated service, including over 30 years of coaching for our organization. We are excited to have Sean Wallace transition as head coach of our 18u Midget team. Wallace is currently a scout for the USHL Omaha Lancers and Director of Scouting for our 20u OJHL team. We are confident that Wallace will continue to lead and strengthen our organization at the 18U level.
