BUFFALO, N.Y. (July 18, 2019) — Today, Buffalo Jr. Sabres, a member of the Ontario Junior Hockey League, announce a new organizational leadership structure for the 20U Junior A team.

“Our organization is continuing to grow,” said Larry Playfair, 20U Junior A Team Governor.  “Our growth is generating increased opportunity for our players and teams to recognize success, and we are building a staff and infrastructure to support that growth and success.”

Effective today, the Buffalo Jr Sabres 20U Junior A. team leadership will be constructed as follows:

Governor & Board Member                   Larry Playfair

Executive Director                                  Charlie Mendola

Alternate Governor                                 Matt Ellis

General Manager & Head Coach          Nick Tuzzolino

Director of Scouting                               Sean Wallace

Director of Player Personnel                  Tim Kennedy

Tuzzolino, our current head coach of the last two seasons, takes over as General Manager.  “I’m honored and humbled for this opportunity,” said Tuzzolino.” My mission is to continue building upon the strong foundation of our organization, and together with my staff, we will continue to execute our plan to provide our players the tools to achieve their goals.” Last season, Tuzzolino lead the Buffalo Jr Sabres Junior A team to the 2ndround of the Ontario Junior Hockey League playoffs, the first time that’s happened in over 5 years. “Working in many professional organizations throughout my career has provided me information and insight that I will put forth in developing a program laser-focused on building successful players and people,” remarked Tuzzolino.  “With Sean and Tim in their new roles, we are ready to get started.”

As mentioned above, to further support the growth and development of the program, the 20U Junior A team is adding two new components to the staff.  Sean Wallace will take over as the Director of Scouting. Wallace, a native of Rochester, NY is currently a regional scout for the Omaha Lancers of the USHL as well as Hockey Program Manager for HARBORCENTER. “We are excited to add Sean to our leadership team with a focus on talent identification and assessment, said Tuzzolino. Wallace will continue to be an assistant coach for the team as well.

Additionally, Tim Kennedy has been named Director of Player Personnel, while also continuing his role as assistant coach.  Kennedy, a native of Buffalo, NY, played much of his youth hockey as a teammate of Tuzzolino. “Being a part of this organization is exciting, especially being a part of a staff that can help shape the development path of players working to get to the next level,” said Kennedy.  Kennedy played in the USHL for two years prior to attending Michigan State University where he was a member of the 2007 National Championship team. In 2005, he was selected 181stoverall in the NHL Draft and has played in over 650 professional games.

Congratulations to Nick, Tim and Sean on their new roles.
